ESPN personality Stuart Scott was given the Jimmy V Award at the ESPYs on Wednesday night.

After an emergency appendectomy in 2007, Scott had an additional surgery to remove possibly cancerous tissue.  Then, in 2011, it was revealed that he was battling cancer.  It went into remission in 2012, but he was diagnosed again in early 2013.

The Jimmy V Award is named in memory of Jim Valvano.  Valvano was a basketball coach and broadcaster who died of cancer in 1993.  Weeks before his death, Valvano delivered what many consider to be one of the most inspirational speeches of all time.
