Local Womens Police Support Group Holding Candelight Vigil For Sgt. Carter

Our continued thoughts and prayers are with the Birmingham Police Department and families and friends of Sgt. Wyt Carter as well so the other officer who remains in the UAB University Hospital following Sunday (January 13) morning's shooting outside 4 Seasons Sports Bar & Grill.

Following this tragedy in our community, a local women's police support group sought to honor the life and service of Carter.

April Hutchins from Jefferson Women Behind the Badge

April Hutchins of the Jefferson Women Behind the Badge stopped by Alabama's Morning News with JT this morning to share more about how the group started as well as the Officer Down Candlelight Vigil they're holding this Thursday (January 17).

The community is invited to join the group at 6 p.m. Thursday outside of Birmingham City Hall to pay respects to Sgt. Wyt Carter.

In addition to the vigil, a 14-year-old friend of Carter's son is collecting monetary donations for the family.

According to the GoFundMe,

Our son is a close friend and school mate of Sergeant Carter's son and was so saddened by the news that he wanted to help in any way he could.
